With well over 200 licensed airports, Australia is well-serviced by air. However, for visitors, there are a few airports of note- the busy Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns and Perth Airports handle the bulk of over 5 million annual international visitors to the country. Sydney Airport handles over 90,000 passengers, international and domestic, per day! The first 4 of these are situated on the eastern coast, a popular place for visitors. They give access to such destinations as the Gold Coast, the Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef and Sydney, the capital city. Perth Airport, over on the western coast, is a hub for the more adventurous traveller who wants to venture a bit further off the beaten track and see all of what this vast, wild and beautiful country has to offer. Australia has a universal visa system, meaning that everyone arriving except New Zealanders needs a visa, and visitors should read the rules on www.immi.gov.au before coming.
