The information below on Christchurch Airport is sourced from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christchurch_International_Airport):

Christchurch International Airport (IATA code CHC) is the main airport that serves Christchurch, New Zealand. It is located 12 kilometres to the northwest of the city centre, in the suburb of Harewood, and was opened in 1953.

The primary runway is oriented near perpendicular to Canterbury's Nor'wester foehn wind. For this reason, the secondary runway is a cross-runway (at a right angle to the primary runway), and is used during Nor'westers by all aircraft up to and including Boeing 777s; United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster IIIs have also been known to use this runway in extreme conditions.

Due to increasing passenger numbers, the airport has begun construction on a new Domestic terminal upgrade costing over $200 million. The new construction is scheduled for completion in 2011, with some work such as demolition continuing until 2012.

With the development of Antarctic scientific expeditions, since the 1950s Christchurch Airport has been the base for all Antarctic flights operated by the United States Air Force, Air National Guard and Royal New Zealand Air Force as part of Operation Deep Freeze. During the Antarctic flying season (which generally operates from August to February), C-17 Globemaster III, C-130 Hercules and LC-130 Hercules aircraft are often seen on the Antarctic Apron north of the main passenger terminals. C-5 Galaxy aircraft also make the occasional appearance.

Tampa Airport
By fwickafwee - Flickr
Tampa International Airport (IATA code TPA) is a major public airport located six miles (11 km) west of the Tampa CBD, in Hillsborough County, Florida, USA.

Tampa Bay was the birthplace of commercial airline service, when pioneer aviator Tony Jannus flew the inaugural flight of the St Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line on January 1, 1914, from St. Petersburg, Florida, to Tampa using a Benoist Flying Boat — the first scheduled commercial airline flight in the world using a heavier-than-air airplane.

Jet-powered operations began in 1959 when Eastern Air Lines introduced the Lockheed L-188 Electra. The following year National Airlines began turbojet service with the Douglas DC-8 jetliner. Flights to Mexico City began in 1961 with weekly service by Pan American.

Construction on the new terminal began in 1968 between the airport's parallel jet-capable runways. When completed in 1971 the new jetport was highly praised by the press. The airport's people mover system was the first such system in the world. Today, TPA Airport handles about 20 million passengers per year and improvements currently in progress will increase capacity to 25-million passengers a year. The airport's car rental market is in the top five among all U.S. Airports.

Vancouver International Airport Aerial
By Alejandro Erickson - Wikimedia
Vancouver International Airport (IATA code YVR) is located on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, about 12 km (7.5 miles) from downtown Vancouver. In 2008 it was the second busiest airport in Canada (behind Toronto Pearson International Airport), with non-stop flights daily to Asia, Europe, Oceania, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and other airports within Canada. The airport has won several notable international "best airport" awards, and retains the distinction of "Best Canadian Airport" in the regional results. It is an Air Canada hub as well as a focus city for WestJet and a hub for Air Transat.

Vancouver International Airport's interior features one of the most extensive collections of Pacific Northwest Coast Native art in the world, and blues and greens to reflect the colours of the land, sea and sky. The airport uses a great deal of carpet and vast expanses of glass to let in large amounts of natural light. Arriving passengers come down escalators leading to a platform across a large waterfall. The Vancouver Airport aboriginal art collection includes wooden sculptures and totem poles."

Royal Tongan Airlines Boeing 757 at Sydney Airport Monty-1
By Montague Smith - Wikimedia
Sydney Airport, also known as Kingsford Smith Airport (IATA code SYD), is located in the Sydney suburb of Mascot. It is the major airport serving Sydney, and is a major hub for Qantas. Sydney Airport is one of the oldest continually operated airports in the world, and the busiest airport in Australia, handling 31.9 million passengers and 290,346 aircraft movements in 2007.

Originally declared an aerodrome in 1920 (then known as Sydney Airport), it was renamed Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport in 1953, in honour of Charles Kingsford Smith, a pioneering Australian aviator.

The airport's first runways were built in 1933, all in gravel. Some small streams where some of the present runways are located were also filled. By the 1960s the need for a new international terminal had become apparent, and work commenced in late 1966. The new terminal was officially opened on May 3, 1970, by Queen Elizabeth II. The first Boeing 747 'Jumbo Jet' to serve the airport, Pan American's 'Clipper Flying Cloud' (N734PA), arrived on October 4, 1970. In the 1970s the north-south runway was expanded to become one of the longest runways in the southern hemisphere. The international terminal was expanded in 1992 and has undergone several refurbishments since then.

Sydney Airport has three passenger terminals. The international terminal is separated from the other terminals by a runway, therefore passengers need to allow for longer times for transfers. The airport does provide shuttle services between terminals.

London Stansted Airport
By Oxyman - Wikimedia
London Stansted Airport (IATA: STN) is located at Stansted Mountfitchet in the local government district of Uttlesford in Essex, 48 km (30 mi) north-east of central London. It is 4.6 km (2.9 mi) north northeast of Bishop's Stortford and about 6 mi (9.7 km) outside Harlow.

Stansted is a hub for a number of major European low-cost carriers. It is the third-busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the third-largest airport serving the London area after Heathrow and Gatwick; it is one of London's five international airports, along with Luton and London City.

The airport is owned and operated by BAA, which also owns and operates five other UK airports, and is itself owned by ADI Limited, an international consortium, which includes Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and GIC Special Investments, that is led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group. It is the fourth busiest airport in Australia and plays a strategic role due to its location – servicing many Australian, Asian, Indian Ocean as well as Johannesburg, South Africa and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The two domestic terminals are side by side and about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from the Perth CBD, whilst the international terminal is 17 kilometres (10.6 mi) from the CBD. The international terminal is on the opposite side of the main runway from the domestic terminals. The road distance between the international terminal and the domestic terminals is 11 kilometres.

Perth Airport is located near major arterial roads, Great Eastern Highway and Tonkin Highway. The domestic terminal is also accessible from the city by public transport buses, and transfers between terminals are available by use of an hourly inter-terminal transfer bus or taxi. Only passengers with proof on an ongoing ticket are allowed to use the inter-terminal transfer bus and bus fares may apply.

The airport has recently announced a redevelopment plan that will facilitate the recent growth in passenger numbers. Jetstar Launceston
By Kspilling - Wikimedia

Launceston Airport (IATA code LST) is a regional airport on the outskirts of Launceston, Tasmania. Situated in the rural area of Western Junction, the airport is located 15 km (9.3 mi) from the Launceston City Centre. It has become Tasmania's fastest growing airport. Hobart International Airport and Launceston Airport are the only two airports in Tasmania to reach one million passenger movements per year.

In 1962 a plan for major redevelopment of the airport was approved. This included strengthening of all pavements, a runway extension, and soon after a new terminal building. The site was officially reopened that same year as Launceston Airport. In October 1982 the runway was further upgraded to Boeing 767 standard. In 1998, the airport was privatised, now being owned by a group known as Australia Pacific Airports Corporation Limited, who is also the owner of Melbourne Airport, in conjunction with Launceston City Council.
